How to play Number Path
In Number Path you draw a single line through the whole grid. The line starts at 1, passes the other numbers in order and ends at the highest number. It has to go through every square exactly once and may never cross a wall. Each puzzle has exactly one solution, and you can find it without guessing.
Number Path rules
- Draw one line that starts at 1 and ends at the highest number.
- The line passes all the numbers in order: 1, 2, 3 and so on.
- It goes through every square of the grid exactly once.
- The line moves from square to square horizontally or vertically, and never crosses a wall.
- Each puzzle has exactly one solution.
How to solve a Number Path
Look at the corners
A corner square has only two neighbours. Unless the line starts or ends there, it has to come in through one neighbour and leave through the other. That fixes two pieces of the line straight away. The same reasoning applies to any square that walls have boxed in down to two open sides.
Walls make dead ends
Walls can create narrow pockets with only one way in. If you enter such a pocket, you must be able to get out again, or the line has to end there. So don't wander into a dead end unless it is where the highest number sits. Plan your route through these spots first.
Don't leave a square behind
Every square has to be visited. As you draw, keep checking that you aren't cutting off a single square or a small group that the line can never reach again. If a move would strand a square, it is the wrong move.
Playing Number Path in Vellara
Number Path is one of the puzzles in Vellara that are switched off by default. You will find it at the bottom of the main menu under More puzzles, and you can put it in the main menu yourself in Settings, under Puzzles in the menu.
To draw, put your finger on the end of the line and drag on. You can pass several numbers in one go. To shorten the line, drag back over it or tap it at the point where you want it to stop. Undo takes back your last step and Clear starts again. You can make the grid smaller or larger, or fit it to your screen.
There are five levels. The easiest is a 5×5 grid with plenty of numbers; the hardest is a 12×12 grid, the largest. In between, you get less help and sometimes need to think ahead. Every puzzle has exactly one solution and can be reasoned out completely.
A clock runs while you play, but there is no time pressure. Take as long as you like.
