How to play Block Fitting
Block Fitting is a shape puzzle. You put every piece from the tray into the grid so that every square is covered and nothing overlaps. The pieces do not turn: they go in exactly as they lie in the tray. One grey piece is already in its right place, and each puzzle has exactly one solution.

How to solve a Block Fitting puzzle
Start at the corners and edges
Corners and edges are the hardest places to fill, so they are where only a few pieces can go. Look at each corner and ask which pieces could cover it without sticking out of the grid. Often there is just one candidate. Placing it gives you a firm edge to work from.
Place the big pieces first
Large pieces have the fewest places where they fit. Small pieces are flexible and can fill gaps later, so save them for the end. Putting the biggest piece in first narrows things down quickly.
Watch for holes no piece can fill
Before you place a piece, look at the gaps it leaves behind. A single square boxed in on all sides, or an odd-shaped hole that matches none of the remaining pieces, means that move can't be right. Since the pieces never turn, you can compare each hole directly with the shapes in the tray.
Playing Block Fitting in Vellara
Block Fitting is one of the puzzles in Vellara that are switched off by default. You will find it at the bottom of the main menu under More puzzles, and you can put it in the main menu yourself in Settings, under Puzzles in the menu.
Drag a piece from the tray to its place. Or tap a piece first and then tap the square where the block with the dot should go. Tap a piece you have placed to put it back in the tray. Undo takes back a step, Check shows how you are doing and Clear starts again. If you are stuck, the button "Put one piece in its place" does exactly that. You can make the grid smaller or larger, or fit it to your screen.
There are five levels. The easiest is a 4×4 grid to get started; the hardest is a 10×10 grid, the largest. Each step up brings more pieces to fit. Every puzzle is made for you and has exactly one solution.
A clock runs while you play, but there is no time pressure. Take as long as you like.
